MATTEO FERRARA
Bass-Baritone
Born in Padova in 1981, he took his diploma in Piano in 2004 and in Singing in 2005 at the Conservatoire of Adria (Rovigo). He is currently specialising under the guidance of Raina Kabaivanska at the Istituto "Orazio Vecchi-Antonio Tonelli" of Modena.
He attended specialising courses organised by the Accademia Chigiana of Siena and the Accademia Rossiniana of Pesaro.
Matteo Ferrara is a wonderful interpreter of character roles. He has enjoyed collaborations with such conductor as Gianluigi Gelmetti, Alberto Zedda, Vladimir Jurowski, Filippo Maria Bressan and with such director as Mario Monicelli, Gianfranco De Bosio, Marco Gandini, Italo Nunziata.
In 2003 he made his debut in Gianni Schicchi with the Opera Studio Mimesis (Teatro Comunale of Florence) and in 2005 as Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte with the Accademia Chigiana (Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena). Subsequently he sang Don Pasquale in Treviso and Rovigo. He portrayed the role of Cancian in I quattro rusteghi by Wolf-Ferrari in Pisa, Lucca, Livorno and Ravenna. During 2006 season he performed the role of Bob and Tom in Britten's The Little Sweeper at the Teatro Comunale of Modena and the role of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro Olimpico of Vicenza. He appeared at the Rossini Opera Festival as Barone di Trombonok (Il viaggio a Reims). He also took part in a Japan tour with the Teatro dell'opera of Rome singing the role of Sagrestano in Tosca. In November 2006 he has premiered Il principe granchio by Paolo Furlani at the Teatro Comunale in Modena.
In May 2007 he sang Purcell's The Fairy Queen (As.Li.Co. production) in Milano. He sung La gazza ladra (Ernesto) at the Rossini Opera Festival 2007 and debuted Werther (Giovanni) and Les Mamelles de Tirésias (Il gendarme) in Sassari. He sang in Tosca (Il sagrestano) at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, he debuted at the Opéra Royale de Wallonie in Liège with Ariadne auf Naxos and Traviata and for the Festival Le Settimane Musicali at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza he sung Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Under Alan Curtis and with Il Complesso Barocco he did a great debut in the parts of Lesbo and Pallante in some concert performances of AGRIPPINA in Madrid, Milano and Vienna. During the past seasons he was Bartolo/IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA of Paisiello in Sassari, Benoit/LA BOHEME and LE NOZZE DI FIGARO at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Schaunard/LA BOHEME at Teatro di Modena.
Recently he debuted as Sagrestano/TOSCA at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam under Pinchas Steinberg and as Montano in a new production of OTELLO at Teatro Comunale in Modena and Piacenza as well as in a tour in Japan with the Fenice Venezia.
His future engagements include among others Zuniga/CARMEN, Benoit/LA BOHEME and a new production of RAKE´S PROGRESS at Teatro La Fenice in Venezia.
